New Manitou unveiled

The first press conference at Intermat this week was that of Manitou which unveiled its “revolutionary new lift”.

As we had already guessed the new product is a 33ft articulated light weight boom lift, the ManGo 12 – with 12 metres working height.

The new model uses a chassis mounted Kubota engine, and wheel mounted hydraulic drive motors – new for Manitou but well established for the industry. The unit is 1.8 metres wide and weighs 4,100kg, outreach is said to be in the region of six metres, with a platform capacity of 230kg.

The unit employs a linked single riser and two section telescopic boom, plus a 130 degree articulated jib. The machine has been designed specifically for the rental market with straight sided steel covers and easy technology. Tyres are solid airboss type, providing some give, while being environmentally better than foam filled.

Vertikal Comment

This looks like a very nice machine and if pitched at the right price will sell well, it is clearly aimed at the Niftylift HR12 market sector, although it is both heavier and wider than the various models offered by the green manufacturer, and does not feature a hybrid or bio-energy version. Compared to the new Genie Z33/18 it has a simpler- although less efficient drive (Genie uses AC wheel motors) - and also offers an articulated jib, which is not available on other products in this market.

In summary a very good machine, but while it might be revolutionary for Manitou it is hardly revolutionary for the market. We look forward to learning more.

Gasping for air
It will sell well in France as the French are very loyal to their indigenous manufacturers.
It is obviously designed for the construction market being diesel, heavy and 1.8m wide, however floor loadings are becoming increasingly more important to construction companies in the UK. I think the best all-rounder is the Nifty HR12DE 4x4.

Grumpy
Looks nice but it's simply too wide at 1.8m!
