Noridc steel maker SSAB (Swedish Steel AB) will supply French aerial lift manufacturer Manitou with ‘fossil free steel’ from 2026 aiming to enhance the sustainability of its product line.
The steel will be ‘fossil-free’ and ‘zero’ which are both produced with a minimal amount of carbon emissions, allowing Manitou to introduce a new line of telehandlers, aerial work platforms, and forklifts with a significantly reduced carbon footprint.
Agreeing the deal at the SSAB facility
Olavi Huhtala of SSAB said: “We are excited about adding Manitou as a fossil free partner, our goal is to revolutionise the way steel is produced and pave the way for a greener future. Thanks to customers like Manitou who share our ambition of reducing carbon emissions, we are able to create early markets for sustainable steel."

Headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, SSAB was established in 1978 through the merger of two steel companies, Svenskt Stål and Stora Kopparbergs Bergslags. The company aims to be the first in the market offering emission free steel on a commercial scale by 2026.
