The boom of a new 1,600 tonne crane installed on an Olsen Windcarrier wind turbine installation vessel knocked over a smaller harbour crane at the Navantia Ferrol shipyard in north west Spain in late November.
The jack up vessel was preparing to depart after its new crane had been installed at the shipyard, as it dod so the boom nose struck a rail mounted crane on the dock, knocking it over the edge of the dock onto a barge. Thankfully no one was hurt in the incident. According to the managers at Navantia the incident was caused by a ‘calculation error’.

Vertical your information is incorect . The crane was not being slewed into its stowed position. The crane boom was already in the crane rest. The incident happened as the vessel was manoeuvring to leave the port and resulted in the crane boom striking the dock side crane. Nothing to do with the operation of the crane.

Luckily there wasn't a LNG ship, or a loaded ferry, but a similar happening has to make people think to what in real world safety has become: tons of paperwork to "save the CEO" (and find a janitor to blame)
