Prior to joining Kalmar, he was head of automation at renewables company Voith Hydro, having previously worked with Voith Paper since 2007. Before that he was a professor at Tampere University for 10 years and prior to that spent more than 20 years with Metso in both Finland and China. He replaces Olli Isotalo who is leaving to become chief executive of Patria, a supplier of defence, security and aviation support services.

Vehviläinen said: "Antti has a wide experience of global industrial business and automation. His background is a great fit with Kalmar's strategy to combine software and equipment seamlessly together and offer customers solutions that support their operational performance. I'm pleased to welcome Antti to lead this global team."

"Kalmar is in a very good shape. I want to thank Olli for his magnificent work during his many years with the corporation and wish him the best of success with his new challenges."

Reading of this change in leadership reminds me of the book about Volvo AB and the plant built at Kalmar, Sweden. The book People At Work was written by Pehyr Gyllenhammar, a leading manager at Volvo. The book helped change the ways I looked at people, management, production and quality control in the institutional foodservice industry.
