Hiab introduces new EN280 platform
Loader crane manufacturer Hiab has launched a new integrated work platform that for its cranes that fully complies with the latest version of the EN280 standards and machinery directives.
One of the new features integrated into Hiab’s MEWP, is the Variable Stability Limit (VSL) system, which will also benefit regular loader crane work. This system maximises capacity in relation to stability by registering how far stabiliser extensions are extended and ensuring that the jacks (legs) are set firmly on the ground.

In addition, Hiab MEWP cranes are fitted with the stabiliser lights and an upgraded operator protection system (OPS), allowing the "virtual protection cage" to be predefined so that it electronically, prevents the boom from entering this restricted space of the ‘cage’.
When the MEWP attachment is mounted, the crane is placed in MEWP mode by means of a key switch. The Hiab XS HiPro crane retains full capacity in this mode, and crane speed is optimised for comfort, safety, and precision. To comply with safety standards, the maximum vertical speed is set at 400mm/second and the maximum slewing speed at 700mm/second.
The two-man platform is available in steel or aluminium, with non slip self draining floor and finger guard safety rail. A battery powered Auxiliary Power System is provided in the platform in addition to a manual pump type emergency descent.
