Britax celebrates 50 years

Vehicle safety product manufacturer Britax has celebrated 50 years of continuous production at its facility in Bridlington, UK.

The company, which manufactures amber hazard warning beacons, lights and reflectors for construction and off-highway vehicle manufacturers such as JCB, Caterpillar, New Holland and Komatsu, celebrated its anniversary today with a party for its employees and their families.

The company first began on a kitchen table in Yeadon, Leeds back in 1946 producing wiring and electrical equipment for the growing automotive market. As the company continued to expand it moved its production to its current premise on the Bessingby industrial estate.

Marketing manager David Timms said: “The 2008 recession hit us hard but as quickly as we went into it, we came out of it. There has been a very strong recovery in the markets we operate in and I would say we are as strong now as we have ever been. We have a loyal and highly skilled staff, some of who have been with us 30 and 40 years. We remain, however, one of the town’s best-kept secrets and this anniversary has been the perfect opportunity to shout about ourselves.”

The company currently employs around 220 staff and exports its products to the US, Scandanavia, Eastern Europe as well as the Far East. It also has offices in India and China.
