Hiab celebrates 70 years

Loader crane manufacturer Hiab has celebrated its 70th anniversary this month.

Swedish ski manufacturer Eric Sundin co-founded Hiab in 1944 when he developed the first loader crane after struggling to unload heavy timber from a truck at his factory. He engineered a new way to transfer hydraulic from the truck’s engine into a his lifting device which he named the ‘Hiab Method’. Now part of Cargotec, the company has since expanded on the idea to provide cranes for the construction, forestry, recycling sectors, with brands including Jonsered, Loglift, Moffett, Multilift, Del, Waltco and Zepro.

Hiab president, Roland Sundén, said: “We are proud of our cranes and our legacy. The Hiab philosophy has turned it from an industrial pioneer into the leading global provider. Over the years we have increased productivity in construction, forestry, recycling and other fundamental industries, and we have improved speed, safety and accuracy within distribution and logistics. Above all, we have created flexibility, reliability and security for the individual operator right up to the largest global businesses."
