Two Vallas for Rapid

UK lifting and rigging company Rapid Response Solutions (RRS) has taken delivery of two new Valla pick & carry cranes from local distributor Hird.

The new cranes, a 12 tonne 120E and 18 tonne 180E, are electrically powered, feature non-marking tyres and hydraulic luffing jibs and a custom made carry frame. Both units feature four section main booms, and both feature a maximum hook height of 10 metres and can reach almost seven metres clear of the front bumper at which point the 120E can lift 18.8 tonnes and the 180E three tonnes both with booms horizontal.

The machines went straight to work with the 120E operating alongside the company’s new 300 tonne hydraulic skidding system and the 180E used to support the set up of the company’s MegaLift system.

Based in Portsmouth, Southern England, Rapid Resonse has specialised in lifting, transport and storage for 16 years. It currently runs eight pick & carry cranes, the largest of which is the latest 180E model. As well as its Portsmouth base, it also has locations in Ashchurch, the Midlands, and Yorkshire.

Managing director Paul Barber said: “To offer a diverse range of lifting solutions we needed something capable of carrying out pick & carry operations. The range of mobile cranes with pick & carry duties is dwindling and our dated Iron Fairy yard cranes are becoming a thing of the past. Traditionally this market would have been met by the Iron Fairies with diesel engines, but these modern cranes are far more compact, battery powered and have non-marking tyres. I was surprised by the number of options available for each model. I honestly wasn’t aware just how much Valla is prepared to modify and alter a basic machine to meet a customer’s requirements.”

“There is a shortage of larger pick & carry cranes in the UK for hire so it made sense to order the two cranes to meet our needs and others looking to hire cranes. The order book is growing. We always knew it would take a while to get two new machines working, but as we present the cranes to the different market sectors we are finding a lot more requirement. We will look at increasing the fleet with at least one or two larger machines in the future.”
