Grove for Chile mine

Chilean rental company MPM has taken delivery of a new 130 tonne five axle Grove GMK5130-2 All Terrain crane.

The new crane features a 60 metre six section main boom, which the company considered long enough not to need any extensions. It comes with 11 tonnes of counterweight. Additional features ordered include wireless remote control, engine spark arrestor, air conditioning and an independent heater. It went straight to work on the expansion of a processing facility at Minera Spence copper mine in the Antofagasta region of Chile.

Based in Santiago, Central Chile, MPM has provided lifting and industrial services since 2008, in addition to other mine-specific services such as anti-corrosion coating. The new crane joins a 120 tonne Grove RT9130E-2 Rough Terrain crane in the fleet.

MPM owner Daniel Vega said: “We purchased the GMK5130-2 to work in a variety of construction and maintenance jobs in some of Chile’s largest copper and gold mines. We wanted a crane that could effortlessly move within and between job sites. Its fast highway speeds and good off-road performance make it both efficient and capable. Ever since we started working hand in hand with the Grove representative here in Chile, we have felt very satisfied, that satisfaction has only grown with the work the GMK5130-2 is accomplishing in the Spence mine.”
