IronPlanet appoints GovPlanet EU managing director

Online auction house IronPlanet has appointed David Shouesmith as managing director of its European government and public agency equipment sales operation - GovPlanet EU.

Prior to joining IronPlanet he worked as an independent consultant trading as Northcourt Associates. Before this he was with accountants Price Waterhouse Cooper as a vice president of its PRTM management consultancy division.

Before that he served in the British Army from 1981 to 2009, where he progressed to the rank of major-general, serving both in the UK and overseas. He was also the assistant chief of defence staff for Logistic Operations at the ministry of defence, from 2006 to 2010.

Jeff Holmes, vice president of Government Solutions said: “I am delighted to announce David’s appointment at IronPlanet. David has a wealth of experience working in both the public and private sectors and is familiar with the disposal of equipment with which he will be working so closely. It is a critical time for him to be joining GovPlanet following the success of the IronPlanet/United States Defense Logistics Agency auctions in Europe.”

IronPlanet launched its GovPlanet business in the United States in November 2014 and in July 2015, hosted its inaugural online auction of European-based surplus U.S. military equipment.
