Crushing fatality in Alabama
A man died in Alabama on Thursday when he was crushed between the platform/bucket of the van mounted aerial lift he was operating and the underside of a filling station canopy at the RaceWay Gas Station on U.S. 231, just inside the Alabama-Florida state line.
Larry ‘Redd’ Rabion, 45, the founder and owner of Contract Lighting Services of Webb, near Dothan, Alabama, was removing signs above pumps at the station, when according to the local police a component of the canopy made contact with the platform controller, causing it to elevate into the canopy, pinning Rabion between the two. We understand that the work platform was owned by the company - which is based in Webb, Alabama - and uses it regularly for work on large signs and lighting.
Rabion died on site from suffocation or internal injuries sustained while he was pinned against the underside of the canopy. He leaves behind a wife, two sons and four grandchildren.
