A crane crashed into a building this morning in Brussels as it was preparing for a lift in the quartier des Marolles in the city centre.

The crane operator was able to extract the crane from the building
The operator had just slewed the superstructure of the three axle Liebherr All Terrain crane- owned by rental company Megamax – over the rear while free on wheels, when it seems that the crane ran away down the sloping street, with the operator sitting in the cab unable to do anything. Just before the crane crashed into a building at the end of the street he jumped clear saving his life.

The operators cab was completely destroyed
The crane hit the building causing a great deal of damage to the roof and façade, including a shop front, while the crane superstructure cab was completely destroyed in the impact. Thankfully no one was hurt in the incident as the shop on the ground floor had no customers at the time and the sole occupant of the house above was asleep in the back.
