Harnesses save two

Two men are relatively unharmed today in spite of their boom lift being clipped by a passing truck, thanks to their harnesses and short lanyards keeping them in the platform.

The incident occurred on Saturday morning in Norwalk, Ohio. The JLG articulated boom lift was being used to carry out work on the Huron County Court House, with the riser apparently protruding out into the road. The impact caused the boom to swing violently, the two men managed to remain harnessed into the platform. According the police, the two suffered bruised ribs and facial lacerations but were otherwise unhurt. They were taken to hospital for a routine check.

The scene after the men returned safely to the ground

“Both guys that were in the bucket lost their hardhats but had a harness on them, which kept them from falling out when it was hit. The one had lacerations on his face and the other had bruised ribs, but I imagine they were just focused on the work in front of them and didn’t realize the truck was coming. They were taken out to the hospital … they said it shook them up. It could have been so much worse. I can’t imagine being the employees that were up in the lift.”
