Crane jib collapse
The telescopic jib or extension of a boom truck type crane dropped into the street and damaged a Missouri State University building in Springfield Missouri yesterday
The crane -owned by a regional roofing company Kirberg - was being used to remove concrete material from the roof of the Jim D. Morris Centre which is currently being repaired, when , according to reports, a weld supporting the jib gave way causing it to part company with the main boom. As it fell to the ground it damage a window and possibly part of the wall, but fortunately no one was in injured in the incident.
A university spokesman said construction work had been suspended that and will not resume until a safety investigation has been completed.
