Boom lift destroys bridge

A delivery truck carrying three JLG boom lifts destroyed a bridge on I-96 near Detroit yesterday.

The bridge before the incident

The boom lift at the front of the trailer had its boom raised to a height of at least 4.5 metres- the clearance height of the bridge.

The truck photographed shortly before the brdige strike

The boom caused substantial damage to all four bridge beams resulting in the Michigan Department of Transportation declaring that the bridge needs to be demolished immediately.

The damage to the underside of the bridge

We understand that some, if not all of the boom lifts on board the truck are owned by MacAllister Rentals, the local Cat Rental Store. Whether this was the company’s own delivery truck or that of a contractor or customer we do not know.
