Fatal fall
A man died earlier today after falling during the placement of beams on Sound Transit's East Link light rail extension project from Bellevue to Redmond in Washington state.
The local emergency services said that the man fell around 10 metres from a bridge support column, as it was being prepared for cranes to lift a large concrete beam into position on top of the column. In addition to the crane, a boom lift was on site for use with the work at height.

The scene shortly after the incident occurred in the early hours
The man was rushed to hospital, but declared dead on arrival. News is limited so we have no idea if the man had climbed out of the boom lift and then fallen or fallen from the platform – or walked along the beam to the column.
We will update when we learn more.
