AT overturn in Germany
A five axle All Terrain crane overturned in the town of Taunusstein, on the north side of Wiesbaden, Germany, last week.
The operator of the crane - a 160 tonne Liebherr LTM 1160-5 belonging to rental company BKL - was in the process of setting the crane up for a series of lifts on an apartment block. He had fully deployed the outriggers on the lift side of the crane, while the ones to the rear were short rigged. With the full counterweight in place, the operator extended the two smallest boom sections and fully elevated before slewing the boom towards the building, placing the counterweight over the short rigged outrigger and causing the crane to overturn rearwards.
