Electric telehandler orders for JCB

JCB has already booked a number of orders for its brand new 525-60E battery electric telehandler which it unveiled in late November with shipments due to start in the first or second quarter of next year.

The first company to order a unit was Manchester, UK, based contractor Domis Construction. Managing director Lee McCarren said: “As a truly forward thinking organisation we are striving to change the face of construction with modernisation, innovation and technological advances at the forefront. As soon as we saw the significant benefits this electric JCB machine could bring to our operations we wanted to secure the first in the region.”

This was followed more recently by UK rental company M O’Brien Plant Hire which has ordered two of the new JCB telehandlers for its fleet. The new units will join two Faresin 6.26 All Electric telehandlers which were delivered earlier this month. So it will have the opportunity to do a decent side by side comparison between the two products.

Director, Dan O’Brien, said: “We were one of the very first to purchase JCB 19C-1E electric mini excavators and the performance of those machines gave us the confidence to become one of the first to buy the 525-60E electric Loadall too. With the addition of the fast charger further enhancing its performance it will be perfect for materials handling on major urban sites.”

Launched last month, the JCB 525-60E offers a six metre lift height and a maximum 2.5 tonne capacity. It uses a 96v lithium-ion battery pack with an onboard charger that can recharge the machine overnight from a standard 230 volt 16 amp outlet. A JCB Fast Charge remote three phase charger - good for all JCB ETech electric powered machines - also claims to recharge the pack to 80 percent in 60 minutes or fully recharge from empty to full in 2.5 hours.
