The articulated JLG was being transported on a trailer towed behind a truck when the boom caught the bridge beam, which has a clearance height of 4.4 metres. Three of the five steel bridge girders were damaged and will either need to be replaced or repaired.

The ripped front bridge beam

Thankfully no one was hurt in the incident. Coverage by police of the incident shows no sign of the truck and trailer and it looks as though the boom chassis remained on board, possibly well tied down, while the superstructure was ripped clean off and left in the road. The bridge repairs are expected to take around three weeks while the lift has been ‘totalled’ – a definite write off.
