160t Demag for Crane Norway

Crane Norway has taken delivery of a further 160 tonne Demag AC 160-5 All Terrain crane for its Nordic Crane Midt-Norge company based in Tiller, Trondheim.

The five axle AC 160-5 has a 68 metre main boom, plus a 12 to 21 metre bi fold swingaway extension, that can be extended to 33 metres with a 12 metre insert between boom nose and the extension which can offset by up to 40 degrees. The maximum tip height is almost 105 metres.

Other features include Demag’s IC-1 Plus crane control system with multi position outrigger width setting and automatic monitoring and load chart calculation. The 2.75 metre wide chassis includes dynamic launch control and independent rear axle steering, with an overall length of 14.5 metres, which Demag claims it is one of the most compact cranes in its class.

Nordic Crane Midt-Norge will use the crane predominantly within the oil and gas industry as well as for transportation and construction projects, however its first job was working on a wind farm.

Crane Norway has taken delivery of a AC 160-5 for Nordic Crane Midt-Norge

Crane Norway general manager, Trond Helge Skretting, said: “We already have several cranes of this model in our fleet. In terms of performance and reliability, they leave nothing to be desired. That’s why we decided to get a Demag AC 160-5 once more.”

Based in Sola, to the west of Stavanger, Crane Norway is part of major contractor Stangeland. The crane group is made up of six operating companies - Nordic Crane Sør, Nordic Crane Vest, Nordic Crane Midt-Norge, Nordic Crane Nord, Nordic Crane Engineering and Nordic Crane Oslo – which runs a fleet of more than 300 cranes including All Terrains to 500 tonnes and lattice crawlers to 650 tonnes.
