Crane and platform incident

A man has died after falling from the platform of an aerial work platform at a tool making plant in Georgsmarienhütte on the south side of Osnabrück in central Germany.

The incident occurred on Monday when two men were installing a three tonne component using an overhead crane.

According to the local police report a sling gave way and the load dropped onto the platform catapulting the man, 43, from the platform, while he co-worker, 51, was trapped in the platform and had to be freed by the fire and rescue team. He was rushed to hospital with serious injuries. The public prosecutor and local safety organisation have launched an investigation.

Once again, we do not know if either of them were wearing harnesses. We will update this item if and when we learn more.
