First LTM 1230-5.1 in Africa

African crane rental and heavy transport company Allied Crane Hire has taken delivery of the first 230 tonne Liebherr LTM 1230-5.1 All Terrain crane on the continent.

The five axle crane features an eight section 75 metre main boom plus an 11.5 to 20 metre bi-fold swingaway. An eight to 43 extension, offsettable by 22.5 and 45 degrees, can be used in place of the swingaway to provide a maximum tip height of 113 metres. Features include Liebherr’s VarioBallast and VarioBase Plus outrigger set up and monitoring systems, plus a single engine concept with ECOmode to help reduce fuel consumption and noise.

Managing director André Engelbrecht, said: “Crane experts will agree that Liebherr has the best technology in mobile and crawler cranes and is a pioneer in the industry. An important criterion for us in choosing the LTM 1230 5.1 was its 75 metre telescopic boom. This allows us to do many crane jobs without having to set up a lattice jib.Operations in the petrochemical and mining industries are also extremely challenging: little space, time pressure and constantly changing conditions. This calls for high flexibility from the cranes.”
