2022 - Better, worse or the same?
As 2021 draws to a close, we are carrying out our annual snapshot of reader’s prognosis for 2022.
While 2021 has had its fair share of roller coaster rides, it has largely been a good year for companies and people in the market sectors we cover, including manufacturers, rental companies and end users alike. Each has struggled with various challenges including supply chain constraints, labour shortages, inflationary price/cost increases, while dealing with the ongoing pandemic.
It now looks as though the first quarter of 2022 will be more of the same, although new equipment prices are certain to rise steeply and there is real pressure for similar increases in rental rates, all of which will eventually get passed on to the final consumer. Hopefully they will be able to take it in their stride and the situation will ease as we reach the midyear point.
But that is just one view.
Please take part in our annual vote - scroll down on the home page - on how you think the new year will compare with the outgoing year.
For more nuanced inputs and commentary, please consider participating in our annual rental rate study. While the final report will cover the UK and Ireland, we will also be reporting on trends in other markets, so input is most welcome from all countries. Just answer those questions you feel comfortable with. There are no ‘required’ questions as all are ‘optional’ and not even a need to add your name.

This is a little like asking if Bitcoin is going to go even higher, or collapse.
Then again, perhaps hiring equipment is a bit like trading cryptos. If you have a clear strategy, and you and your team are disciplined enough to stick to that strategy, then you can succeed. However, when the discipline slips, the chances of success decline rapidly.
