Stephenson’s moves into Quebec
Canadian rental company Stephenson’s Rental Services has acquired a controlling interest in Québec-based equipment rental company Centre de Location GM.
Location GM operates from four branches in the Montreal region - Boisbriand and Laval in Montreal city, plus Sainte-Adèle and Sainte-Agatheto in the north west. The company runs a wide range of tools and equipment including boom lifts, scissor lifts and telehandlers, both fixed frame and 360 degree.
Stephenson’s runs a similar range of equipment from 45 locations across Ontario and Alberta, some of which are based in Lowe’s building equipment supply stores.
This investment is a first step in Stephenson’s plans to expand its coverage in the province of Québec. Chief executive Alexandre Cantin and chief financial officer Jean-François Cantin - both shareholders in Location GM - will retain a “significant equity participation in Location GM and continue to manage the business which will remain under the Location GM brand.
Stephenson's chief executive Guy Manuel said: "The investment in Location GM is an important step in the expansion plans of Stephenson’s in the province of Québec. It immediately provides a strong foothold in the province and represents a great platform to further expand our activity in Québec. After meeting with Alexandre Cantin and Jean-François Cantin, we quickly realised that they were the right partners to work with in Québec. On a personal note, being born and raised in Québec City, this investment has the feeling of coming home. We welcome all the Location GM employees and all Stephenson’s employees into our expanded family."
The Cantins added: "This transaction allows us to continue to serve our current clients while at the same time accelerating our growth across Québec through having access to significantly more capital and 'best in class' technology. It also represents a great opportunity for our employees to be part of our exciting growth plans. We are extremely pleased to work with our new colleagues at Stephenson’s to significantly grow Location GM’s presence in Québec.”
