Tadano AC 5.220-1 for Cochez

The Gravelines branch of French rental company Cochez - a subsidiary of Ponticelli - has taken delivery of a new 220 tonne Tadano AC 5.220-1.

The new five axle crane follows the delivery of a virtually identical machine to the company’s branch in Orléans, allowing the two operations to share the boom extensions, although the 400km/250 miles or so distance between the two locations may make that a little impractical for day to day jobs. The new crane replaces a 220 tonne Tadano ATF 220G-5.

The new crane features a 68 metre, seven section main boom with a range of extensions including a 10.9 metre swingaway extension which can be extended to 36 metres for a maximum tip height of 108 metres. The entire extension offsets by up to 40 degrees. A three section luffing telescopic extension/jib which offsets by up to 60 degrees, is also available. The maximum counterweight is 71 tonnes.

Cochez managing director Xavier Charpentreau said: “Tadano AC 5.220-1 continues to be the standard by which all other cranes in its capacity class should be measured, we are using it to replace our previous Tadano ATF 220G-5, which really did an excellent job for a very long time. This makes both the crane’s acquisition and use very cost effective not only for us, but for our customers as well. And that’s before taking into account the very high level of reliability that we’re already familiar with from our other Tadano five axle cranes.”

The new crane will be largely deployed along France’s north coast region. Founded in 1921, Cochez operates from three locations in Northern France, with a fleet of cranes from 16 to 700 tonnes.
