LTM 1650-8.1 for Steil

German rental company Steil Kranarbeiten taken delivery of a new 700 tonne Liebherr LTM 1650-8.1. The new crane is an expansion to the company’s large mobile crane fleet.

Steil decided to order the crane with a full suite of equipment, including both the 54 and 80 metre main boom options, along with a full luffing jib. The main boom is easily converted from the four section 54 metre boom to the six section 80 metre by removing the boom nose from the fourth section and adding in sections five and six. The short boom provides lower axle weights and reduces transport costs and erection time whilst the large boom is also available when required. The maximum 91 metre luffing jib provides a maximum lift height of 152 metres.

The new crane is ready to go

The single engine crane also features the Variobase outrigger set-up and Varioballast with up to 175 tonnes of counterweight.
Owner Birgit Steil said: “We have operated several Liebherr LTM 1500-8.1 cranes for many years and have now invested in its successor. It is another eight axle crane which has the same compact measurements with the H-outriggers. The luffing jib capacities are enormous. The requirements in industry and wind power are constantly on the rise as are the required lifting capacities. Furthermore, the concepts of VarioBallast and VarioBase are another benefit of the crane."

Steil is based in Trier with four depots across Germany plus one in Luxembourg, and runs a fleet of 115 cranes, with 300 employees.
