Shifting into the road

We have just received the following video, of an incident that occurred between a boom lift and a passing pick up truck in San Diego, California, back in January.

The operator of the boom lift, a Genie telescopic from the United Rentals fleet, was driving the stowed boom lift from an unloaded position parallel with the street into the car park of the San Diego Unified School District’s John Muir Language Academy. As he turned into the entrance the boom naturally swung out int the street, into the path of an approaching pick up truck.

The driver said that the early morning sun temporarily blinded him, meaning that he missed seeing the boom lift’s basket until it was too late. Thankfully the boom lift operator was harnessed in and was unhurt, the same was true of the driver.
The video highlights the dangers of manoeuvring on the public highway.
