Dropped man basket

Two men were seriously injured on Monday when the suspended man basket they were using to reach the roof of the old observatory at the University of Bonn, Germany. dropped between 20 and 26 metres.

The two men aged 34 and 42 were rushed to hospital, one by helicopter and one by ambulance where their condition is described as stable.

The police and the Cologne district health and safety officials took control of the site and launched an investigation into what happened. So far, no further details have been released. From local reports we have received it seems that the slings attaching the basket to the crane gave way or slipped free causing the fall, but we have not been able to verify that.
