500 tonne Demag for Cordeiro

Brazilian rental company Cordeiro has purchased a 500 tonne Tadano/Demag AC 8.500-1.

In fact, the new machine - a Demag AC 500-8 - was built in 2019, and more recently became the Tadano AC 8.500-1 under the new Tadano nomenclature system, following its acquisition and integration of Demag earlier this year.

The eight axle crane features a 56 metre main boom, a 90 metre luffing jib and a Superlift system to offer a maximum tip height of 146 metres. With a carrier length of 17.1 metres, it claims to be the most compact in the 500 tonne class. Before shipping the crane, Tadano had to fabricate a new luffing jib and Superlift system for it.

The crane’s new luffing jib and Superlift system

The company acquired the refurbished crane in order to carry out larger contract lifting work without the need to re-rent cranes from other suppliers. The company has provided a large number of cranes for wind power projects over the years, mostly small and medium size truck and All Terrain cranes along with mid size crawlers. The crane’s first job will be a long term wind maintenance contract on a wind farm.

The Cordeiro heavy lift team

Commercial director Aldelfredo Mendes said: “The company is growing and looking for new equipment, and this is just the first of this size. This machine will expand our fleet and make us more robust in the market.”

Based in Fortaleza in the state Ceará, on Brazil’s north east coast, Cordeiro was established shortly after the Millennium, and also offers contracting services, transport, cargo handling, logistics, rigging services and container rental in both its home states as well as several other states in the Northeast, and has a presence in the Parauapebas region to serve the mining industry and a branch in the port town of Pecém.
