Saudi’s first LTM 1650-8.1
Saudi Arabian company ACT Arabian Consolidated Trading has taken delivery of the first 700 tonne Liebherr LTM 1650-8.1 All Terrain crane to arrive in the country.
The company has previously run the eight axle LTM 1650’s predecessor - the 500 tonne LTM 1500-8.1. ACT has ordered the new crane with both the basic four section 54 metre boom and the extra sections which allow it to be converted to the six section 80 metre boom when required. The four section boom combined with a 16 metre extension topped with the maximum 91 metre luffing jib, provides a maximum tip height of 158 metres with a capacity of up to 12.3 tonnes at a radius of 52 metres.

The handover
ACT founder/president Hassan Mohammed Rashid Al-Naim said: "The LTM 1500-8.1 is a proven crane within the ACT group that has also impressed our customers. We wanted to have Saudi Arabia's first LTM 1650-8.1, ACT has always been a pioneer and has set standards in the crane business in Saudi Arabia, and we have now done this once again with the new 700 tonne crane."
“We need a fast crane, a so called ‘taxi crane’. The LTM 1650-8.1 is easy to mobilise. This is important for emergency maintenance work in the refineries, where we only have four hours to set up for shutdown work. The new 700 tonne crane is the best choice here."
"Generally speaking, everyone here at ACT is convinced by the standards Liebherr sets each time they launch a new product. Our customer Aramco is very satisfied with Liebherr in the field of refinery maintenance and shutdown work in particular. We purchased our first Liebherr crane in 1987 and Willi Liebherr's visit to our site in 1992 strengthened our business relationship even further."
