Tadano trio for NRC
Iraq’s North Refineries Company (NRC) has added three new 30 tonne Tadano GR-300EX-3 Rough Terrain cranes to its fleet as part of an expansion programme to help with growing demand.
NRC is based in Baiji, between Baghdad and Mosul, in northern Iraq’s Salahaddin Province. Founded in 1978, NRC’s refinery has been relatively calm in recent years and now produces 310,000 barrels of oil per day.
The new cranes feature a four section 31 metre main boom topped by a 7.2 to 12.8 metre bi-fold swingaway extension that offsets up to 45 degrees and provides a maximum tip height of just under 47 metres. The unit is rated at three metres and can handle 8.4 tonnes on full boom at a radius of up to 6.5 metres.

The new GR-300EXs will be used for a variety of general maintenance activities involving lifting pipes, tanks, heat exchangers and valves as well as damaged equipment inside the refinery. They were purchased through Tadano dealer Sardar Automobile and Machinery (SAM) Trading. They join a 100 unit heavy equipment fleet that includes cranes and heavy fork trucks. Other Tadano cranes in the fleet include four 60 tonne GT-600EL units, two 30 tonne GT-300EL units, and a 75 tonne GT-750EL. NRC has also ordered three new 13 tonne GR-130EX City type Rough Terrain cranes for delivery at end of the year.

Chief engineer Sudad Ibrahim Majeed said: “The new cranes arrived just as we needed them, we have had good experience with Tadano's high quality, safety, good prices and delivery, SAM was very helpful during all stages of delivery, clearly communicated with advance and handover training. We are using the cranes on a daily basis as we have heavy loads to lift, fix, and lower back.”
