Another sustainable branch for Speedy

UK rental company Speedy has opened a second ‘sustainable service centre’ in Leeds. It follows the launch of an A+ Energy rated ‘Milton Keynes Innovation Centre’ in 2021.

Speedy says that it is using this low carbon depot as a blueprint for all new and refurbished branches as part of its push towards net-zero. The new Leeds location includes hoist, access and lifting gear and a dedicated training centre for courses ranging from safe working at height to virtual technology.

The new locations include smart office and warehouse heating which automates shutters and doors to minimise energy usage and indoor air quality monitoring which controls temperature, humidity, CO2 and PM2.5 fine particulates. The smart warehouse lighting reacts to natural light, and turns off automatically when not in use, while a depot manager can remotely control lighting and heating. The centre also has three double port electric vehicle charging points on site. The centre also includes solar power with battery storage.

The company says that it will also provide additional support for the local community, working with local primary schools to create a mural at the depot, while inviting children to plant trees and get help with a ‘wellbeing garden’.

Danny Johnson of Speedy said: I am delighted to announce the opening of our new service centre in Leeds. We are focused on de-carbonising our whole service centre network to improve the environment. As the first company in our sector to sign up to the globally recognised Science Based Targets (SBTi’s) in the drive towards net-zero, our low carbon property plan will play a key role in delivering on the targets we have set ourselves in becoming a net zero business by 2040.”
