Adastra calls in the administrators

UK mastclimber and host rental company Adastra Access Ltd - which includes Yorkshire Hoists - was obliged to appoint a joint administrator last week in order to decide its future. Yorkshire Hoists remains a separate corporate entity and is, we understand, not affected by the administration.

The joint administrators are: Glasgow based Blair Carnegie Nimmo and Edinburgh based Alistair McAlinden.
Based in the West Midlands Adastra had revenues in 2021 of £5.5 million, with a pre-tax profit of £770,000. It works throughout the UK with a fleet of around 400 mastclimbers with platform capacities of up to 5,000kg. The company also provides suspended platforms and monorail systems.

The company was founded in 2000 by Peter Hoar who ran the business for several years before he was joined by ‘mastclimber guru’ Ken Goundrey and Kevin Hayes who left Sovereign Access after it was acquired by Harsco (SGB) in 2008.
Adastra Access Holdings - which is not trading had revenues for the same period of £6.9 million, and a pre-tax profit of £690,000. One other possible trigger point for the insolvency protection is the fact that it was an Adastra mastclimber that was involved in a fatal incident in Liverpool in 2021.

Sister company Yorkshire Hoists runs a fleet of passenger and goods hoists with variable speeds and capacities up to 2,700kg.
