French contractors for sustainable equipment

10 French construction companies have come together to create a community of sustainable equipment companies known as CAMD - Communauté des Acteurs du Matériel Durable - or ‘Community of Sustainable Equipment Actors’ in English.

With the ambition of making the construction equipment sector more sustainable, the 10 companies are: Bouygues Construction, Colas, Eiffage, Haulotte, JCB, Kiloutou, Manitou Group, NGE, Salti and Volvo.

CAMD has been established under the French 1901 Act and will represent equipment manufacturers, rental companies and civil engineering contractors.

The group will be overseen by chairman Olivier Colleau - who is also chief executive of Kiloutou - and two vice chairmen, Michel Denis and Patrick N'Kodia - president of Manitou Group and director of transformation at Bouygues Construction.

CAMD will focus on five objectives:

- Provide practical solutions and support cross-sector projects
- Develop a shared understanding and plan for reducing carbon emissions
- Increase awareness of the materials sector and its importance in transforming the construction field
- Advocate for sustainable practices with trade federations to support a greener industry
- Foster a shared vision and ambition for decarbonising the industry

The operational committee, composed of representatives from the 10 member companies, will oversee and execute these five primary goals. They will identify and manage cross-functional projects that address technological hurdles in the sector (such as energy, powertrains, carbon footprints and measurements) and monitor regulatory advancements including CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive), European taxonomy and SBTi (science-based target initiatives).

The operational committee will also arrange events for CAMD, such as the upcoming Sustainable Equipment Meetings scheduled for September 24th.

Update April 25th: Haulotte has now joined the community.
