60 tonner for Ellis

UK rental company Ellis Crane Hire has taken delivery of a 60 tonne GMK 3060L-1 Grove All Terrain crane.

The three axle crane features a seven section 48 metre main boom plus an 8.7 to 15 metre bi-fold swingaway extension for a maximum on board tip height of 65 metres. The crane can also travel with up to 7.5 tonnes of counterweight within 12 tonne axle loadings.

Managing director Simon Ellis said: "This is the fourth three axle crane from Grove to come into our fleet. From the early GMK 3055 to its latest reincarnation, the GMK 3060L-1, all have proved themselves time and again. After nearly 20 years of running these machines, we know they're tried and tested making the decision to add another Grove was pretty easy.”

“The new machine is operator friendly has compact dimensions and its 48 metre boom and strong duty chart give us plenty of scope for a wide range of jobs. Our thanks to Jim and the team at Manitowoc for delivering another quality crane."

Family owned and managed Ellis Crane Hire was established by Bill Ellis in 1982 and operates from depots in Gloucester and Stroud, serving Gloucestershire and the surrounding counties. The company started out selling and erecting prefab buildings and purchased its first crane - a Kato NK 140 – in 1986 to help with the work, followed by a Kato NK 250 E111 in 1989 and then began to rent out its cranes when they were not working on its own jobs.

Following the recession in the early 1990's, the company focused solely on crane rental/contract lifting services and has steadily expanded the crane fleet and added new team members. The fleet has an average of five years while some members of staff have been with the company for more than 20 years.
