Genie is to launch two all new 85ft electric Rough Terrain telescopic boom lifts at the ARA Show next week in Las Vegas.
They are the electric S-85 XC E and the hybrid S-85 XC FE, both of which are powered by Lithium-Ion battery packs and include four wheel drive, and dual platform capacities – 300kg and 454kg.
As with the manufacturer's smaller E and FE booms, the new 85s feature four independent brushless AC wheel drive motors and active oscillating axles. The rising pivot point, three section boom and articulating jib provide a 25.9 metre working height, and up to 22.7 metres of outreach. The overall weights are 17.65 tonnes for the electric and just under 18 tonnes for the FE model.
Small 48v battery packs
Both units are powered by relatively small 48 volt Lithium-Ion battery packs, but which are said to be more than capable of supporting a full day’s work and can be recharged from zero to full in seven hours on a mains outlet. The batteries are rated for extreme temperatures (minus 30 to plus 50 degrees Celsius and carry a standard five year warranty.
Two battery sizes are available, a larger XC battery pack for the electric E model and a smaller one on the FE hybrid unit. Although the larger battery is an option on the FE which is equipped with a 24 hp, DPF-free engine/generator which can keep the battery pack topped up while working and complete a full work week on a single tank of fuel. It is also capable of recharging the battery pack in just 4.5 hours.
Boom lift product management director Dominik Damm said: “These boom lifts are a complete upgrade, with thoughtful engineering and more than 80 quality improvements with the goal of keeping our machine in the field longer with fewer service intervals.”
“Utilising a 48-volt Lithium-Ion battery limits cost transfer to customers by keeping the battery small. Lithium batteries do not require maintenance like FLA or AGM batteries, so there’s no watering or replacement. The batteries are also smart, with software management system that protects them from damage. Additionally, we’ve made service easier because the battery is only 48 volts. Specialised technician certifications are required for anyone working on a 60 volt or larger battery.”
“More than 80 design upgrades to the S-85 XC FE and S-85 XC E demonstrate Genie’s attention to continuous quality improvement with the intention of reducing overall cost of ownership,”
Lithium-ion welder ready generator
A lithium-ion powered AC ‘Lift Power’ welder-ready generator is available that is capable of providing 7kW for the Australian market, and up to 12kW for North America. More than enough to support power washers, drills, and other power tools.
Other improvements include:
-Improved solid-state proximity switches have replaced limit switches, which are fully weather sealed, while moving parts that could cause fault codes have been reduced. Onboard LEDs on the new switches also indicate their status for easy serviceability.
-All, or most sharp steel edges have been eliminated to improve durability and prevent rust.
-The machine’s cable tracks have been better organised to improve serviceability and longevity. Separators are now found on every second track, while spacers separate hoses and cables to prevent overlapping and rubbing.
-Genie’s new Plus+1 control system has been updated to speed up troubleshooting and includes a new LCD display which helps technicians assess faults more quickly. A simple test can be run that provides a visual display of the hydraulic pressures, with the software automatically setting the pressure points between the desired high and low levels. Around 50 percent of the required recalibration is now automated for faster service and less down time.
The ARA Show opens on Thursday 30th January and runs through Saturday afternoon.
