A crane operator was seriously injured last month, in Penzance, Cornwall, UK, when his Rough Terrain crane fell into the dry dock.
The incident occurred on the morning of Thursday February 13th, it seems that the Grove Rough Terrain crane - which looks like a UK/Coles built RT620 - was set up on the very edge of the dock with outrigger beams retracted but jacks down, when somehow it slipped in dropping around six to seven metres to the ground. The edge of the dock is damaged, but this looks like it might have occurred as the crane went over.
the crane landed with a fair impact
The operator was airlifted to hospital in a serious condition, we have been trying to find out how he is doing, but so far have not managed to obtain an update.
The Health and Safety Executive visited the site on the following day but have yet to issue any statement on the incident.
