Tandem Lift goes wrong
A massive 30 tonne bridge beam for the Loop 375 expansion project in El Paso Texas was dropped by the two cranes lifting it into place on Monday after the load distribution became uneven.
Thankfully no one was hurt, but one of the two cranes, both Link Belts, was severely damaged as its boom wrapped around the load and the superstructure was ripped from its bearing.
Few details are available at this time, but it seems certain that as the two cranes began to slew the beam into its position on top of the concrete piers the rear crane simply saw too much of the shared load causing a structural failure.
More information when we hear it
