Tower crane accident Sharjah

A tower crane came crashing down from the 25th floor of an building under-construction in Sharjah yesterday killing the operator and another man.

The 30 year old operator from the South Indian state of Andhra Pradesh plummeted to the ground and is said to have died instantly, while the other man, also form India, was standing under the crane and was crushed by the falling jib.

The accident occurred in the Buhaira Corniche area of the emirate, eye witnesses say that the crane started to tilt and then toppled off the edge of the building crashing down on the work site below.

Some reports claim that the crane had just been erected.

The bodies of the two men were taken to the Kuwaiti Hospital.

An investigation on the wreckage has commenced, at this stage there are no reliable indications as to what caused the accident.
