Truck at sea
Offshore cable laying specialist Oceanteam recently called on Facelift to provide an aerial lift to help them survey the massive ‘A’ frame at the rear of its multi-functional cable installation barge, the 92 metre CLB Explorer.
The 1,700 tonne barge is used for the laying power cables on or under the seabed in coastal and near-shore applications. It also carries a large cable burial plough on deck which is launched by the A-Frame, which has a 60 tonne lift capacity.

Dave Burns, equipment superintendent at Oceanteam, said: “After the ‘A’ frame’s regular load testing was completed, Facelift’s 34 metre Bronto S-34MDT, which weighs just over 17 tonnes, was lifted onto the barge using a mobile crane from Mammoet.

Hey-Ho and up she goes, Facelift's 34m Bronto S-34MDT truck-mounted lift is lifted onto the deck of the CLB Explorer
The Bronto then provided the surveyors with access to all areas of the structure which were due for inspection. Its straight boom and jib, together with its height and outreach (up to 24 metres) allowed it to cover the job from a single location, minimising disruption to both the crew and deck activities.”
