Chew joins MEC

Allan Chew the Malaysian based access equipment representative has joined MEC, the Californian based aerial work platform manufacturer. Chew was previously employed by UpRight, and before that Snorkel, Genie and Instant.

Chew has been employed in the access industry for more than twenty years, he will represent MEC throughout the region, including: China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines, Brunei and India.

"The access industry in Asia Pacific is in its beginning stages," said Chew. "A 'sunrise' industry so to speak, with good potential for MEC in the emerging market. MEC's reliable equipment, coupled with my friendly approach, will help build a strong and successful dealership network throughout the region."

This latest appointment reflects MEC’s efforts to expand its sales overseas, it already has a strong based in Continental Europe with Platform Sales Europe which has traded under MEC Europe, and earlier this year appointed Martin Davies to handle sales in the UK, he is now in the process of opening a U.K. distribution centre for the company, in Oswestry, Shropshire.

"We're already taken delivery of our first MEC units," said Davies. "It's quite exciting! The MEC line of scissor lifts out performs all other brands. It's an easy sale, who doesn't want faster lifting and lowering speeds, stronger gradeability, and a better-built unit from the ground up?"

The UK distribution center is also taking orders for the first MEC boom series, with initial production units rolling off the assembly line in August 2008. MEC telehandlers are also slated for the UK market.

The company, which will begin shipping its first boom lifts in August, say that revenues grew by more than 30 percent last year, with the trend continuing into 2008.
