New chairman for Tanfield

Tanfield, owner of UpRight and Snorkel, has announced that it is appointing Jon Peter Pither, 75 as a non –executive director and as of January 1 chairman, a post he held until 2005.

Current chairman, Roy Stanley will step down in January but remain as a non-executive director. At the same time he will become non –executive chairman of Smith Electric Vehicles US Corporation, Tanfield's 49 percent owned US electric vehicle associate. His appointment will be in addition to Tanfield's existing two representatives on the SEV US Corp board.

Pither holds a large number of non-executive directorships and is currently chairman of Southern Bear plc, Active Capital Trust plc and deputy chairman of The Alumasc Group plc and Jourdan plc
.
Prior to 1991, he was managing director of Amari, an international group of engineering companies, from 1969 until 1988 when it was acquired by Glynwed International. He has previously been a member of the AIM advisory committee and was chairman of Tanfield from its admission to AIM in December 2003 to June 2005.

Roy Stanley


Stanley said: "The Board is delighted to welcome Jon back as a non-executive director. We look forward to working with him again and are sure his advice and support will be invaluable. It has been a privilege for me to have chaired Tanfield for the past four and a half years. I look forward to maintaining my involvement with the group and in particular to helping SEV US realise its full potential."

Pither added: "I am delighted to be rejoining Tanfield and look forward to working with the team as they continue to guide the Group through the current downturn and build for the future. I am also delighted that Roy is joining the Board of SEV US, where I believe his energy and entrepreneurial vision will be of real benefit. I am also pleased that we will be retaining his expertise at Tanfield, as a non-executive director."
