Pick & carry overturn
An articulated pick & carry crane have overturned this morning on a site in Melbourne, Australia
Details are scarce at the moment, but the police have said that the incident occurred in a shopping area that WorkSafe are investigating at the same time as the recovery is underway. The crane is reported as belonging to local rental company Crane Tech.
There were no reports of any injuries and damage appears to have been limited to the crane

Good Evening Mr Crane Nan,
Thank you again for your kind words, it was nice of you to write.
HSE will confirm that 142 Men and Women were Killed at Work in UK during 2014 and if my Crane Safety work saves just one life, it will all be worthwhile.
Even if it does mean being mis-described by your goodself.
Why, because Worker Safety is very Important.
Kind Regards

Well said safety man at least you are not just copying and pasting stuff from a text book like that Ponsonbury.

Safety Man
As a Functional Safety expert with an MSc in Safety Critical Systems Engineering from a highly regarded UK University, I feel I need I need to comment on the Accident term.
It is a recognised word accepted in the safety industry as – An event, or sequence of events, that causes unintended harm.– e.g. death, injury, property damage, consequential costs, environmental and legal damages.
These are the result of an accident sequence resulting from a Hazard - Potential to cause harm, eg A physical situation or state of a system, often following from some initiating event that may lead to an accident.
Controls and mitigations are put in place to eliminate or reduce the probability of a either a hazard occurring or the accident resulting.
A Functional Safety engineer tries to design machines to eliminate or mitigate hazards so that accidents are less likely but...it is very difficult to mitigate against stupidity and operator error or misuse.
I wonder how many of the aforementioned accidents were caused by poor design compared to how many were as a result op operator error or misuse?
Good Morning Mr Crane Nan,
Experience is a Great Quality if we have it, but what if we dont ?
For example…..
a) What if I did not know the difference between a Slewing Pinion, a Slewing Ring and a Slewing Motor ?
b) What if I did not know the Difference between Radius and Radii ?
c) What if I do not know how to calculate the Tm2 Imposed Loadings on my Crane Outriggers ?
Who would teach me and how would I learn, if not by being correctly Trained by my Employer : Because if I am not Trained correctly, then I am put at Risk of Killing myself, or worse still killing someone else ?
Therefore as HSE will confirm, 142 Men and Women were Killed at Work in UK during 2014 and if my Crane Safety work saves just one life, it will all be worthwhile. Even if it does mean being misdescribed by your goodself.
Why, because The Corporate Manslaughter Act now has profound implications for all Crane Owners in the UK
and Worker Safety is very Important to me.
Kind Regards

Ponsonbury nobody is doubting what you are trying to do but it's the way you come across, you have no clout in this industry what so ever and because of that nobody takes you seriously.

To who ever this Mike ponsonbury is I find you'r comments on Vertikal very patronising, it's very clear to people from the crane industry that you are not experienced within this type of work and just making a name for yourself, or at least trying.
Take some advice from somebody with 36 years of experience in this industry that it's really not for you.
Hope you have a great day.
Good Morning Mr Editor,
March 2016 is now closed, with April meaning that Spring now awaits us.
Readers will know that I have spent 8 years researching Crane Incidents Worldwide, not ‘Accidents’ as many were entirely foreseeable for anyone who cared to look and my spreadsheet confirms that this long list of Fatalities caused by Cranes and Lifting Operations is now extended by another Eight (8) Fatalities. Details of which are recorded as follows….
a) Twelve (12) Crane or Lifting Incidents were Reported Worldwide in the Month of March 2016.
b) Eight (8) Men and Women were killed as a Result of these Twelve Incidents.
c) Machines Involved were 1 Mobile, 1 Telehandler, 2 Towers, 2 Crawler Cranes, 4 AWP’s and a Dropped Load.
Thus confirming that Two Hundred and Sixty (260) Men, Women and Children have now been Killed by Cranes and Lifting Operations Worldwide since 010114.
This Death Toll is an appalling indictment of our society and does not include the recent Humanitarian Disaster at Didcot Power Station. So if no-one else will speak up for the Dead, I will. Therefore some ‘Fresh Thinking’ may be required by all parties involved, in how to manage this Major and ever Increasing problem. To that end….
d) HSE in UK to re-define Lorry Loaders and Telehandlers as Cranes, because they lift off the ground, are subject to LOLER Regs 1998 and de-facto Cranes is what they are ?
e) Consign this weasel word ‘Accident’ to the dustbin of History, as its continued use perpetuates the myth that this issue is un-manageable, when its self-evident that it can be ?
f) Start a Training, Instruction and Supervision Programme for all including the CEO based upon the Common Law obligation known as 'Safe Systems of Work’.
Not the Unsafe methods of Working that this excellent Vertikal website displays to the World on a daily basis. Moreove the CEO should always be included because if the CEO is not committed to ’Safe Systems of Work’ then nobody else will be. To do otherwise leaves us exposed to the words “ Heath and Safety is a Load of Bollocks” spoken to me personally, by the CEO of a £100 million company here in the UK.
Why should we do this, because the Next Dropped Jib, Load or Overturn Incident imperils all and Worker Safety is Very Important to me.
Please make Worker Safety the overriding objective in all Workplaces.
Kind Regards
Mike Ponsonby
