Crane overturn in Oregon
A Rough Terrain crane overturned on a job site in Lake Oswego, due south of Portland, Oregon on Thursday.
The crane, owned by Ness Campbell Crane, was setting up or preparing for work on the retail/apartment mixed use Mercantile Village development, when it seems the ground gave way under one of the outriggers, or the front ones were simply not extended.
The emergency services “evaluated” the crane operator on suite, but he escaped without injury.

I live in Portland, OR and have worked in crane rental in the area for 15 years. Word the street is he did not extend an outrigger and swung the counterweights over that corner. If I remember correctly he was not normally assigned to that machine.
Bart....do you understand that when a crane overturns like this that the weight of the crane on a rigger forces it back in ?
Hence the reason the rigger appears as if it was never extended....

Looks like his own counterweight on the ground below the boom, and I don’t see any evidence of front outriggers extended.
Accident appears to be during set-up while attaching the counterweight from the adjacent flatbed.

That's three incidents in a space of a week where most are on holiday.
