Another AT crane fire
An All Terrain crane caught fire on the M-62 motorway in the UK, between junction 22 and 23 near Huddersfield after.
It seems that a fire broke out in the chassis engine compartment yesterday evening and the operator appears to have started to raise the boom away from the fire. The fire caught hold however and resulted in an explosion, which was caught on a web cam. The police have confirmed that no one was hurt in the incident, but that it was cleaning up oil and diesel spills.

motorists witnessed an explosion and massive fireball
The incident resulted in the road being closed for some time and causing massive tailbacks. We have no further information at this stage but have received the video link below and some photographs and will of course update this item as we learn more. But it is just one more example of an All Terrain catching fire during road travel.

Fire on M62 - When Crane Services (Leeds) Ltd was in operation we experienced a 300ton A/T crane set on fire on the M1 which was a very expensive claim. After that we fitted fire suppression equipment to the chassis and engine bay on all our cranes. Its not a cheap exercise but it is a lot cheaper than an expensive claim and the loss of a crane in a fleet during repairs.
I cannot understand why manufacturers and owners do not fit as standard.
