All electric RTs from Snorkel
Snorkel has begun production on its new range of battery powered compact Rough Terrain scissor lifts.
Manufactured at its facilities in the UK and New Zealand, the ‘RTE’ range includes the 1.4 metre wide 22ft S2255RTE and 27ft S2755RTE scissor lifts, plus the 1.8 metre wide 27ft S2770RTE, 33ft S3370RTE and 39ft S3970RTE. Shown as prototypes at last year's Conexpo, the new models will now be available worldwide alongside the company’s ‘RT’ diesel and ‘BE’ bi-energy models.

All RTE models are equipped with two 5.75kWh lithium-ion battery packs, with built in battery management systems, which the company claims delivers at least eight hours operation on a single charge, and up to a week between charges. An optional third 5.75kWh battery pack, easily retrofitted thanks to spare space within the battery cabinets, can be supplied to provide extended range or heavy use applications.

Chief executive Matthew Elvin, said: “We are delighted to extend our proven lithium-ion battery solution to these five popular compact rough terrain scissor lift models. Within the past two years, we have developed and fully released eight electric zero emission models with four wheel drive capabilities, with more to come. We understand that our customers need robust, reliable and easily adopted products that help them achieve their net zero goals without compromising on performance, and are proud to offer these innovative lifts which deliver on all fronts.”

It is a hydraulic 4WD system, powered by an AC motor, not individual electric wheel motors. This is much more efficient than traditional hydraulics, and as the article states provides increased power & torque over a diesel equivalent.
