Liebherr's first cranes with new boom

Liebherr has delivered the first 50 tonne LTC 1050-3.1 All Terrain cranes with booms installed with its new rope type telescope system. The cranes have been delivered to German crane rental company Wasel and Austrian crane, access and transport company Felbermayr.

Unveiled towards the end of last year, the optional boom uses a synchronised rope telescope system that is said to be significantly quicker than the company’s standard Telematik boom. Intended for lifting applications inside buildings, the new five section boom measures just 31 metres, compared with the standard six section 36 metre boom.

Wasel and Felbermayr have taken the first cranes with Liebherr’s new rope telescope system

Felbermayr director Peter Stöttinger, said: “The LTC 1050-3.1 is a good compact crane, which particularly comes into its own when used inside buildings. However, Telematik was not really a familiar technology for our crane operators in the compact crane segment. The rope pull mechanism has been in used for decades on small cranes and is very widespread. Our operators are very familiar with it and have come to appreciate it over many years.”

The internal workings of the 31 metre rope extended boom

Matthias Wasel added: “It also takes slightly longer to extend and retract the boom using Telematik. Particularly when we are working inside buildings, where production often has to be stopped, every minute counts. Fast telescoping with a high load is worth its weight in gold in these situations.”

Ulrich Hamme, engineering and development director at Liebherr Ehingen, concluded: “Today, customers can choose between the powerful, long Telematik boom and the high speed, familiar rope pull mechanism. Depending on the applications for which the compact crane is needed, one or the other variant is better suited.”
