Self-erector overturn

A self-erecting tower crane overturned on Wednesday in Altkalkar, north west of Duisburg in Germany near the Dutch border.

The falling crane struck another crane on the project as it went over, causing it to list dangerously to one side, to the point where it had to be dismantled with the help of two All Terrain cranes from the Schares fleet.

The cranes, three of them in total, were working on a housebuilding project in the town when it seems the ground gave way under the base of one of them causing it to go over, its jib then struck another of the cranes compromising its stability.

One of the outriggers sunk deep into the ground


The two mobiles arrived, helped bring down the listing crane by supporting it as it was folded, the two then got to work on removing the first crane which was seriously damaged in the incident as was the building it was working on. Thankfully no one was hurt in the incident.

More and more "cheap" crane manufactures with much too less know how are going to this complex market. These overturns are without doubt the result of this.
There must be much more strict regulations for crane manufacturers that things like this must not happen anymore in future
