First Liebherr for RRC

Welsh rental company RRC Crane Hire has purchased a 230 tonne Liebherr LTM1230-5.1 All Terrain, the company’s first Liebherr crane.

The five axle LTM 1230-5.1 is equipped with an eight section 75 metre main boom, topped by an 11.5 to 20 metre bi-fold swingaway extension that can be offset by up to 40 degrees. Up to three, seven metre inserts can also be added between the boom nose and swingaway to give a maximum tip height of 113 metres (with the main boom extended to 68 metres).
The new crane includes Vario Ballast variable counterweight, Vario Base Plus outrigger set up and monitoring and full remote control of crane operations. The single engined crane can carry 22 tonnes of its 72 tonnes maximum in the UK with a maximum counterweight of 72 tonnes.

Managing director Ian Cross said: At RRC we have always had a fleet of Terex Demag machines, but our fleet was lacking a five axle machine and the LTM 1230-5.1 was a perfect fit with its Vario Ballast and Vario Base systems. This machine will fit well in between our Demag AC300-6 and our Demag 100 AC 100 4/L. We would like to thank Steve Elliot and the Liebherr team in supporting us through the process. We look forward to continuing our relationship with Liebherr with orders in the pipeline for 2023.”

Liebherr area sales manager Steve Elliott added: “It has been a pleasure working closely with Ian Cross and finance director Derek Hook to ensure they purchased the crane that best suits their business and fits very well within their fleet.”

Based in Wrexham, North East Wales, RRC runs a wide ranging crane fleet that includes road going pick & carry industrial cranes, city type All Terrains, a six axle Spierings self-erecting mobile tower crane and All Terrains ranging from a two axle 35 tonner to the six axle 300 tonne Demag AC300-6.

Surely tramping up and down the country and undercutting local companies will only cost the company running them, Margins being what they are and increasing fuel prices will lead to companies being financially crippled, Which I believe has happened to this operator before.

I believe it broke down a long way from home and had to be recovered... seen a social media post this evening being towed on the Motorway. Either unreliable or maybe being Schlepped round the country doing too many miles?
