Triple shock

Three people received electric shocks while using a self-propelled boom lift to work on a roof in the town of Itaca, New York on Saturday.

Two of the men were working from the platform of the JLG boom, while the third was working on the ground. The two above elevated the platform away from the roof and managed get the platform entangled in the overhead power lines, inflicting serious burns on both of them. Meanwhile the man below went to the machine’s lower controls in a bid to bring them down, but the machine was still live and he received burns as well.

The three men were rushed to hospital the fire crews took some time to disentangle the platform from the power lines, but overall, the power was restored with three hours.

Vertikal Comment

How people can be so oblivious of the dangers of working so close to power lines is a mystery. These three men were exceptionally lucky, normally incidents like this result in electrocution. Let's hope that they recover quickly and fully from their injuries.

So unnecessary! Properly trained operators assess their worksites for hazards and know how to avoid them. Hopefully all three will recover.
